Councilmember Lisa Herbold endorses Jon Grant

For release June 7, 2017

“I am proud to endorse Jon Grant for Seattle City Council Position 8. Seattle is increasingly an unaffordable city for far too many. Jon shares an important message that reminds us that we must do more for those with the least and we must require those benefiting from the City's development boom to do more too.

I had the pleasure of hiring Jon as Executive Director of the Tenants Union of Washington State when I was a Board Member there. At the time the organization was in crisis. In a little over a year, Jon stabilized the organization and reinvigorated its mission of empowering tenants. He worked hard and brought on new staff, grew the budget, started up multiple organizing and legislative campaigns. Now the Tenants Union is a powerful voice for housing justice again.

Because I've worked with Jon for 12 years on multiple tenants' issues, I know that Jon would bring the same tenacity, passion, and dedication to create change to the City Council.

While it's true that the City needs Jon's experience on housing policy, what I appreciate most about Jon is that he grounds his work in the lived experience of people. He works hard and always puts the interests of the community first.”
